Using the Thermotex™ Infrared Therapy System Blanket

The Thermotex Infrared Therapy System is the best heat producing therapy device on the market and it is important that you use it properly to achieve the best results.

The following is an easy general step-by-step procedure that should be followed each time the blanket is used:

  • With the temperature setting on high, plug the blanket in and allow it to pre-warm for at least five minutes.
  • Unplug the blanket then placing it on the horse.
  • Fasten it securely with all of the Velcro straps to fit smartly on the patient.
  • Plug the blanket into a good extension cord making sure that the cords are all out of reach of the horse's head and all four feet.
  • Start the therapy session with the temperature setting on high for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Check all of the pads and confirm that the pads are in the desired pockets.
  • After at least 20 minutes the infrared heating pads can be moved within the pockets to further treat that anatomical area.
  • Most therapy sessions should last a minimum of 30 minutes but when treating a clinical condition, therapy can last at least one hour or more.
  • After the therapy session, remove the blanket, wipe clean with a disinfectant and allow to dry completely before storing.
  • Use a light to medium towel to dry any areas of perspiration and lightly massage any areas of soreness.
  • Long therapy sessions are not uncommon when using the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Symstem blanket. The patented infrared pads will not overheat the tissues and will not cause the dehydration of any of the body fluids from the patient. In cases of severe myositis, the Thermotex Infrared Therapy System blanket has been used up to eight hours, in a 24-hour period, in a cold climate with only beneficial results to the patient.

Each animal is unique and requires its own tailored therapy program. Common sense, horsemanship and cleanliness are the basic foundation in the myriad of uses these products are capable of performing.
