Ultrasound™ Ultrasound and Thermotex™ Equine Therapy Systems are core tools of every trainer and owner who really care about their horses. Whether it's international competition, recreational rides, or just daily exercise, horses are susceptible to injury. With the proper care of your valued friends you can avoid most injuries and get peak performance by properly caring for your horse. This means regularly using infrared heating applicances and treating even minor injuires with therapeutic ultrasound. The concepts of heat therapy and ultrasound for equine care have been around for years, but no products even come close to the effectiveness and ease of use of Thermotex™ and Ultrasound™.

..Thoroughbreds are known to exhibit more nervousness on event days than other breeds. A Thermotex™ therapy session can have a relaxing effect on the horse and improve performance...

Thanks to the advanced technology utilized by Thermotex™ Equine Therapy System, deep penetrating, relaxing infrared heat is delivered to where your horse needs it most. Its most common use is for relief of pain and soreness in muscles and joints. It does this by:

  • Removing lactic acid build-up in muscles
  • Removing soreness due to injury
  • Removing inflammation of the joints caused by arthritis
  • Removing sinus inflammation

Additionally, pre-competition use will dramatically improve performance levels.

  • Enhances respiratory system
  • Removes sinus congestion
  • Acts as a diuretic and helps bleeders
  • Reduces lactic acid levels to prevent tying up during competition

Furthermore, post-competition use will speed recovery time, relieving soreness and inflammation.

As can be seen, whatever discipline your equine is involved in, we can help them perform at the best of their abilities!

I have been using Thermotex™ Therapy System for three years, it is the best investment that I have made for my horses. "don't go to the races without it."

What is Infrared Therapy?

Gentle, Deep Penetration of Thermal Energy

Polo competition after Thermotex Infrared treatment

Infrared therapeutic heating will achieve a higher level of temperature within horse tissue and at a greater depth of penetration than any other heating method (hot towel or heating pad, for example). Furthermore,

  • The gentle heat application is much more even throughout the tissue depth
  • The temperature of the musculature rises more quickly and stays at a therapeutic level longer (heating pads cool quickly, but our infrared system emits a steady stream of thermal energy throughout the length of treatment)

... a safer and much more effective treatment than conventional therapy!

What are the Benefits of Infrared Therapy?

Increased Metabolic Process in Tissue Cells

Order Now

An increase in thermal energy within the tissue (via infrared therapy) increases activity (metabolic process) within the tissue cells. As a result of this, there is an increase in blood flow to the area, a decrease in pain and stiffness, and an increase in tissue extensibility.

Vasodilation

The increased blood flow (vasodilation) to the treated area is typically six times that of the blood flow to the same anatomical area during resting conditions. As a result, not only is there much more oxygen and nutrients brought to the area, the flushing of cellular waste products is also greatly enhanced.

Analgesic Effects

Infrared heat to the equine athlete allows for an increased in exercise efficiency of at least 10%

The application of infrared heat provides a sedative effect upon the sensory nerve endings and ultimately lease to a relaxation within the tissues (especially muscle tissue). The increased blood flow increased the rate of removal of waste products of injury such as prostaglandins, bradykinin and histamine, all of which contribute to nerve fiber sensitization and pain.

Just as important, the application of heat results in an overstimulation of the nervous tissue (increased ability for the nerve to transmit and receive impulses). This overstimulation interferes with the nerve fibers ability to perceive pain, resulting in a state of analgesia (absence of the sense of pain).

Muscle Tissue Elasticity, Greater Range of Motion

With an increase in the blood flow and and increased temperature in the tissue, muscle tissue elasticity is enhanced. Muscles return from a state of spasm into a relaxed mode, permitting them to elongate further and more efficiently during exercise. Tendons and ligaments become more elastic and flexible as well, providing a greater level of injury prevention during future exercise and allows for a greater range of motion. Tests have shown that there is a decrease in the viscosity of the synovial flued within the joint, thus allowing it to function in an enhanced state of lubrication.

Positive Psychological Effect

Perhaps the most immediate noticable effect of a Thermotex™ treatment can be seen purely from observation of the equine shortly after the treatment starts.

100% Guaranteed

Within a couple minutes of starting treatment, the patient shows noticable signs of calm. In a typical treatment, the horse will be seen lowering its head and relaxing within a couple minutes. Often its eyes will begin to close and its stance will become increasingly relaxed.

When treatment is intended as a pre-event warm-up, these benefits can be quickly realized; the equine will be relieved of its stress and much more limber. It will perform at its peak level!

"The Thermotex™ Equine Blanket produces a deep-penetrating yet comfortable, muscle relaxing heat. Thermotex™ provides heat in areas of the equine that need a source of heat to reduce inflammation. The equine athlete not only needs a treatment program to reduce inflammation when it is injured but can also benefit from the use of this blanket as a pre-event warm-up. If a horse can be treated for 20-30 minutes before a race or event just think how much better it will perform compared to horses that have not been treated with a Thermotex™ Blanket."

Thank you!

Throughout years of involvement with high performance horses, I have found that Thermotex™ is a user friendly product that is beneficial for relatation thereby allowing stiff joints to loosen and get blood flowing to the area. This enables my stretching routine to proced without pain or injury. Regular use of the Thermotex™ blanket will result in a strong, steady, powerful, pain free, happy horse. Theremotex is a powerful tool, I swear by it.

Combining Heat Therapy with Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound ultrasound, a form of acoustic energy acts as a deep tissue therapy agent and is used to treat musculo-skeletal injuries. In the same way that ultrasound therapy works with the human musculoskeletal system, equine ultrasound therapy is great for a broad range of conditions.

The most popular use of ultrasound is for focused treatment on an injury, especially:

  • hoof wall abscesses
  • tendinitis
  • bursitis
  • calcium deposits
  • muscle spasm relaxation
  • pain relief
  • improvement of tissue (muscle and tendon) flexibility
  • increased healing rate for post-surgery and post-injury recovery
  • increased joint mobility (alleviates arthritic joints and prevents atrophy)
  • softening of scar tissue
  • inflammation reduction

Ultrasound Equine Therapy

Using both the thermotex infrared therapy blankets and Ultrasound ultrasound, your horse will get the combination of targeted and generalized treatment to achieve a 100% recovery rate in the fastest way possible. With our equine trainer packs, racer packs or hobbyist packs you can get the equine therapy tools you need to get your horse back on the track quickly and in the money.

As you probably know, tendonitis is one of the most common injuries facing equine athletes, and can put the animal out of training and racing without ever making a full recovery. In 1978 the Equine Veterinary Journal published Histological Studies of the Effects of Ultrasonic Therapy on Surgically Split Flexor Tendons. The researchers describe a favorable clinical response in horses with injured superficial flexor tendons, to ultrasound therapy. The histological picture of the repair process in surgically split tendons is described following 10 minutes of treatment 6 times/week, for 2 weeks. One month after surgery the treated tendons showed an absence of the inflammatory reaction and the degenerative areas that were observed in the control (animals not receiving ultrasound) tendons. A network of newly branching blood vessels was seen crossing the incision line and passing into the tissue. The authors reported that this vascular network was associated with massive invasion of young fibroblasts migrating to the incision gap from the surrounding tissue. Six weeks after surgery, collagen fibrils were seen to join with the cut tendon surfaces. The ultrasound treated tendons healed with little scarring.

The Ultrasound kit includes a free handy travel bag so you can treat your horse where ever you go. It is lightweight, safe and portable - a must when using in the barn. Its contoured handle and long cord allows for comfortable, easy application to all areas of the horse without it getting in your way.
